| Winter Weather is Here! |
The weather this year is expected to be colder and wetter than average.
Do your part to help keep Old Man Winter at bay by winterizing your home.
→ Check to make sure all your doors and windows are closing properly to keep heat from escaping and icy winds from creeping in.
→ When you are home, please keep your windows and doors shut to keep heat in - especially your garage door. Many of the homes have pipes that are located in the garage.
→ Drain and disconnect all of your garden hoses.
→ If you have a home with a furnace, check to make sure the filter is clean to ensure efficient heating.
→ If you plan on being away from your home during these chilly months, be sure to leave the heat set to at least 60 degrees and allow a faucet or two to drip in order to help avoid coming home to broken pipes.
When (if) the snow does fall, the streets throughout the base housing areas will be plowed as quickly as possible by Forest City maintenance crews, once the accumulation is 3 inches or more. The rest of the streets throughout the bases and leading up to the housing areas will be the responsibility of NAVFAC crews. (Fort Lawton and Brier housing areas fall under the responsibility of their local municipal public works departments). The sidewalks and driveways in front of the homes are the responsibility of the residents to clear.
